Pride Events for Wednesday

Wednesday, September 3, 2014

Queer Splash Party
6:00-8:00 pm, Gregory Gym Pool

The Queer Student Alliance is proud to present its first ever Queer Splash Party.  This welcome event will have free food, games, music, and t-shirts (so many free stuff!).  There will also be various queer/feminist/ally organizations tabling at this great event.  This is a great way to learn more about the queer community here on campus as well as get involved.  If your organization is interested in tabling (we encourage it!) please send an email to texasqsa@gmail.com so that we can add you to our list.  Don't forget to bring your swimwear!

VAV Denim Day
11:00 - 2:00, West Mall

Join Voices Against Violence (VAV) and Safe Place for Denim Day on April 23, 2014. We will be passing out FREE stickers and t-shirts on the West Mall from 11am-2pm!

Why Denim?

Denim Day calls out victim-blaming and builds a visible community dedicated to building a campus free from sexual violence. In 1998, a teenage girl in Italy was raped by her driving instructor. The man was convicted, but his case went to the Supreme Court of Appeals in Rome. The court overturned the conviction, arguing that because the girl wore very tight jeans she must have had to help remove them, thereby giving consent to have sex.

The case made international headlines, and the young woman’s jeans became a symbol of awareness that what someone wears is NEVER an excuse or invitation for rape
